新罕州康科德公共图书馆近日收到一本「逾期归还」的杂志。84岁男子约翰汉森（John Hanson）归还1894年9月号「世纪画报月刊」（The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine），距离原定归还日期已过了4万8220天，约132年。不过，由于该图书馆目前实施逾期费冻结政策，他也因此免去原本高达1万2055美元的逾期费。

康科德公共图书馆在脸书发文表示，宣布暂停收取逾期费后，确实预料会有民众归还积欠已久的书籍，但「当然没想到会是19世纪末的东西」。

This September 1894 issue of "The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine" has been hanging around John's house for decades. He has no idea how it ended up at his home, but upon seeing the fine freeze article in the Concord Monitor, he decided that it was time to return it to its original home! Understandably, it won't be placed back in circulation, but perhaps it deserves a spot in the Concord Room. Thankfully, he won't have to pay the $12,055 fine for being 48,220 days overdue. 😁

汉森目前住在巴灵顿（Barrington），他自己也不知道这本1894年的杂志究竟是怎么来到手上的。图书馆表示，这期「世纪画报月刊」已经在汉森家中放了数十年，直到他得知图书馆暂停收取逾期费的消息，才决定把杂志送回「原本的家」。

康科德公共图书馆档案及推广协调员尼德姆（Jennifer Needham）说，汉森当天走到借阅柜台，对她说：「我有一本书要还，我敢说你以前没看过这种东西。」

尼德姆原本以为他拿来的是1980、1990年代甚至2000年代的旧书，没想到汉森拿出的竟是19世纪出版品，让她当场惊讶地说：「喔，快告诉我更多。」

面对这本在家中放了数十年的老杂志，汉森仍无法确定它的来历。他说：「我不知道是不是有人送给我的礼物，还是我曾经从路边一堆免费书籍中拿来看的。我真的不知道。」

图书馆表示，这本历史悠久的杂志将不会再开放外借，未来可能保存并展示于馆内的「康科德室」（Concord Room），让这段意外的「132年逾期归还」成为图书馆历史的一部分。
