  Julia Pechar

The microwave beeped in the kitchen downstairs while Julia Pechar was watching Netflix in her upstairs bedroom.

When the 18-year-old Papillion resident jumped out of her bed to grab her popcorn Tuesday evening, one of her feet landed on a prong of her iPhone charger. The charger plug jammed into the outside arch of her foot.

At first, Pechar didn’t know what to do. She took a picture of her charger-impaled foot. She took a picture of her messy room. Then she called out to her mother, Mary, for help, and her mom pulled out the charger.

Blood was involved.

Pechar put the (bloodless) pictures on Twitter with the words, “When your room is this messy, you have to accept the consequences of not being able to see where you step.” Her tweet has been retweeted more than 11,800 times and “liked” more than 15,000 times. The story of her mishap was featured on Buzzfeed, an Internet news and entertainment site.

“She knows that it’s her own fault and she’s having fun with it,” her mother said Thursday. “Since there is no serious injury, I’m OK with that.”

“I’ve had a lot of people contact me about the pictures,” Pechar said. “Some people are sympathetic, but there are a lot of negative people that have been attacking me for not keeping my room clean.”

Pechar said her parents are “neat freaks” and the rest of their house is “super clean.”

“I’m the oddball in the family,” she said.

Pechar said mothers have been contacting her, saying they are using the situation as motivation for their kids to clean their rooms. She said other “creepy” people who apparently have foot fetishes have commented on her feet.

Pechar has to get a tetanus shot and is on antibiotics.

She advises people to keep their chargers plugged into the wall, stack their belongings in piles and clear out an unimpeded path to their beds.

“What happened scared me,” Pechar said. “I think I will keep my room a little tidier now.”
