A survey from the Guangzhou Municipal Household Service Society found that increasingly people with higher education qualifications are pursuing the job.

Of all the 79,820 household service professionals, over four percent, or 3,547 in total, have college diplomas. There are even five postgraduates, traditionally considered too high a qualification for the service sector.
The same applies to other cities. Searches for "confinement nurse with college diploma" on several popular job-seeking and hiring websites can return numbers as high as 1,000 in Beijing and almost the same in Shanghai.
The work can be complicated. Newborn-caring nurses have to stay together with the newborn and mother 24 hours a day and wake whenever the baby does.

The average monthly salary of a newborn-caring nurse, according to a survey of xinhuanet.com, is over 10,000 yuan ($1,410), which is higher than the broad average in the Beijing municipality.
Chen Xiao, an associate researcher on education studies at Beijing Normal University, said it is positive that more people with a background in higher education background are finding jobs in the service sector, because that will help to raise the quality of the workforce.
