——“这件事我是可以改变主意因为对事情更有帮助,那件事我一定要坚持到底因为我是对的。专业知识,对事情的判断,预测和敏感度,都会帮助做这个judgment call。还有一点就是看对方是谁。同样的态度对这个人work,对另一人就不一定。对老板不一定要言听计从,但一定有理有据才能说服对方。如果把他/她彻底说服了,他/她以后只会更尊重你。要特别注意不要一不小心在老板眼里,显出气急败坏,变成defensive。说服对方要讲究技巧,还有就是do you homework, 这样才能有自信”。
在讨论问题时,要做到有说服力,事先的准备非常重要。做足功课,才能让“your analytical process and alternatives be well developed, your statements be fact based, your proposals be solution focused and judgement be accurate.(Don’t be judgemental, though.)”
另一位老师则谈到最好能找到一个同盟军:
“If you anticipate issues or arguments, touch base with your boss ahead of the time, get him/her on your side, and go from there. If you are not so sure about the topic, get an expert on your side. Never go to a meeting unprepared.”
诚如一位老师所说,“Work is a collaboration process. The key is not to have a clear definition of right and wrong, the key is to get where you wanna be as a team. During that journey, communication is the single most important thing. Being a good team leader is not about WHAT you say, it's all about HOW you say it.”
